Key Features of the Aquaglide Cirrus Ultralight Inflatable Kayaks
Weight-saving TPU Nylon fabric tubes
Aquaglide Cirrus Ultralight kayaks have tubes made from TPU double-coated nylon, which saves a huge amount of weight compared to more conventional inflatables made from PVC-based fabrics. Amazingly the TPU fabric also has better abrasion resistance, better puncture resistance, and better UV resistance. It’s also less harmful to the environment… but it is more expensive.
TPU Nylon drop-stitch floor, for unmatched weight, strength and stiffness
We think is the first use of TPU Nylon dropstitch material outside of the military world, we believe all other inflatable kayaks (that use dropstitch fabric at all) are using PVC. Again, TPU is lighter, more durable, and so on.
ASTONISHINGLY LOW WEIGHT!
There’s a reason for using all that high-tech, low weight fabric… the one person Aquaglide Cirrus 110 only weighs 6kg. That’s a bit less than half the equivalent Aquaglide Chelan, which is an excellent inflatable kayak in itself, but more conventional in terms of weight, ie much heavier. Similarly the two person Cirrus 150 only weighs about 8kg (well under 20-lb).
Super-Compact Storage Size
Less obviously, because TPU-coated nylon is more durable than PVC they’ve also been able to use a thinner grade, without compromising usability. That has further benefits when it comes to putting your Cirrus kayak away… it rolls up much smaller too!
Why Buy an Aquaglide Cirrus Inflatable kayak?
Aquaglide’s Cirrus inflatable kayaks are right at the top of the inflatable kayak tree, in terms of design and weight, and undeniably cost quite a lot more than most inflatable kayaks. 20 times the price of some of them, but really all they have in common is the word “kayak”. And a Cirrus is near enough double the price of an equivalent Aquaglide Chelan, which is already an excellent piece of kit. Whether a Cirrus is worth the extra money depends on how important weight and storage size are for you.
If you’re willing to pay for an Aquaglide Cirrus you get a superb touring kayak that’s also incredibly lightweight and folds up incredibly small – so it’s a delight when you’re off the water as well as on it.
