We are often asked ‘How far can I go on one charge?’ The answer is much further than you may think.

There are many variables when dealing with Electric Outboard Motor Range Anxiety, the most important ones being the battery size, and the boat (and the weight) you’re trying to move through the water. These examples assume Torqeedo’s largest battery (916Wh); for the Epropulsion Plus battery (1276Wh) add another 40%.
For a Yacht Tender: let’s say a 2.7m inflatable with two adults on board. You should get:
about 5 knots flat out for an hour
or so (range of 5–6 nautical miles)
about 4 knots at half power for a couple of hours (range 8–10 nm)

That’s a long way in a dinghy!

For a Day boat, Drascombe Lugger or similar, loaded to 750kg, those figures will be reduced by about 10% (but surprisingly only about 10%). In all cases the power required is exponentially related to speed.

If you slow down half a knot, you’ll go a lot further. But equally, if you speed up by half a knot it will be very costly in range.
